India has been the fastest growing aviation for three years in a row now. If the exponential growth being witnessed now continues, Indian Aviation will become the largest aviation market in the world in the next two decades.

But this is only a partial story. India’s defence budget has been growing steadily and steeply and with it the requirement for defence aircraft has also been on a steady rise.
This scenario would translate into higher demand for aircraft over the years. With aircraft being in various phases of their lifecycle, the demand for all types of aircraft MRO activities in India would also grow. The Government of India has laid great emphasis on extending the ‘Make in India’ policy in the defence sector so that the maintenance of defence aircraft could be undertaken within India.
The Aviation MRO industry in India is in a nascent stage. At present, there is no real Aviation MRO facility with the result that we have been dependent on overseas service providers resulting in a huge drain on our exchequer. The huge anticipated growth in the Civil Aviation sector is expected to trigger a huge growth in Indian MRO Aviation Market, which is expected to touch USD 5.2bn by 2026. This necessitates opening up of indigenous aviation MRO facilities in India. A growing market, a rich pool of talented engineers and a government willing to provide the right stimulus and initiatives, this is the most opportune time for Aviation MRO to take off in a big way in India.
It is in this environment that the 2nd edition of Aerospace & Defence MRO South Asia, organised by STAT Times, will be taking place in Delhi in from ,17-18, January 2019.
